HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Can you believe today is the first day of 2018? I’m so excited for the great happenings the year ahead will bring…like Bride or Bust! I know many of you are waiting for a release date, but you’ll have to wait a little longer. Book creation takes time, especially when you do it right (or hope you’re doing it right). I’ve learned many lessons from the publication process of Girl on the Right: Memoir of a Life Upside Down. My goal is to provide you with an even better book than the first. As a matter of fact…
Book awards season is fast approaching, with my first entry, Foreward INDIES Book of the Year Awards, coming up on January 5th. I have twelve book competitions on my roster for 2018. I’ve done a bit of manuscript tweaking to get GOTR in fighting form. I mentioned this to a friend and reader last night. She’s a huge fan and a great supporter of my work. Her reply: “You don’t think it’s good enough? Even with all the 5-star reviews and everything people have said?”
Here’s a dirty little author secret: We’re never, ever satisfied with our work and will rewrite and rework at the slightest provocation. Whew…I admitted it! We are an angsty bunch who pick, pick, pick…you get the drift.
I’m much happier with the edits I’ve made, and have also cleared up formatting issues from file transfers to the printer. That’s my most hated part of book business. I’ve had perfectly formatted book files, both in Word and PDF, that went haywire on their way to the printer’s inbox. It’s enough to make an already vulnerable brain lose its shit.
In the end, of course, I’m grateful to have book business to complain about. I lived my dream in 2017 by releasing my first book. Not only that, I have an audience! I remain incredibly humbled that you, dear readers, supported my book baby by purchasing, reading, and reviewing.
Are you ready to do it again? On to the next!
Bella vida
